Those with type 1 diabetes should have a diet or should take in 35 calories per kg of body weight every day. However, remember that this may vary for each patient according to their age, sex, activity level, current weight and body style

Only about 50 percent of the daily calories should make up carbohydrates. Generally, taking lower amount of calories means having a lower level of sugar in the blood.

Count your carbohydrates since carbs can increase your glucose level. Knowing how much carbohydrates you have eaten, gives you the heads up and control of your glucose level. You can count your carbohydrates by being knowledgeable of the grams of what you have eaten.

Carbohydrates comes from three sets of food group which are starch, fruit and milk. Balance your intake of each kind.

There some food which can eat and drinks you can drink without fretting of counting its carbohydrate contents. These are broth, carbonated or mineral water, club soda, coffee or tea, diet soft drinks, drink mixes, tonic water, sugar -free candy, sugar-free Jell-O, sugar free gum, jam or jelly, light or low-sugar and sugar free syrup.
